Sep 2009 Selmer City Meeting
Aldermen Paul Simpson had written and read a document concerning displeasure and
disappointment with Newspaper articles which he believed to be often hurtful and untrue
and unfair to their families. He especially resented Board members being called puppets
or insinuations that their actions were done in secret. He further invited others possessing
a critical eye to attempt to sit in the Boards place whereby devoting the time and careful
study to all issues as they had attempted to do.

Aug 11. 2009 Selmer City Meeting
Robert Shackelford addressed the Board with concerns over the action at the last city
meeting to “Opt Out” Guns in the Parks and City owned properties. He began by stating
that he felt the action was done in a cloak of secrecy with out listening to the public and
that the action was prohibition against law abiding citizens. He explained that the people
holding a legal permit were law abiding citizens and were being infringed upon and that
these were not the people with the wrong intent. He ended by reminding that the past
action of the Board was negatively impacting law abiding citizens after which most of the
audience applauded.

Jan 10 2012 Selmer City Meeting:
Norman Sheffield addressed the Board with concerns relative to naming the Parks and
memorials. He felt that this was done under a CLOAK of SECRECY, and asked what
ordinances were in place to govern naming parks and memorials within the town. He
further asked why the Park and Recreation Board had no voice in this. Sheffield
said,”You act like there are no standards to naming!” He requested that names be taken
and a board set up for input in renaming the Dixie Park. Later in the meeting, Mr.
Sheffield presented his lap top computer showing gambling information within Selmer’s
recreational website. Mayor Robinson thanked him.

Mayor Robinson also stated that city of Selmer had no procedure or ordiances for naming public places.
